Stacy Schmermund-Romo

M.A., LPC, LSOTP, CCATP

Stacy, was born and raised in California. She relocated to Texas in 2003 and is the owner of Turning Leaf Counseling and Education Center.

Stacy completed her undergraduate Studies at the University of Houston, Victoria with a major in Psychology and earned her Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the University of Houston, Victoria. Stacy is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider and a Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional. Stacy is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Sandtray Therapy, Play Therapy, Batterer’s Intervention and Prevention and Child and Adolescent Trauma Treatment.

Stacy works with individuals, families and couples who want to improve their lives or need help dealing with a variety of life’s challenges. Stacy helps teens and children cope with their feelings and emotions in healthy ways with the use of techniques which with they can relate. Techniques used by Stacy include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Child-Centered Play Therapy, Sandtray Therapy, and EMDR.

Stacy specializes in trauma, ADHD, anxiety, depression, child behavioral issues, and sex offender treatment as well as, evaluations and assessments for adults, adolescents and children.

In the Forensic field of Psychology, Stacy currently works with surrounding county courts, Adult Probation and Juvenile Probation departments providing sex offender treatment in individual and group formats. Stacy conducts psychological and psychosexual evaluations on adults and juveniles. Stacy instructs Chaperone Training classes for families of sex offenders. Stacy provides home study evaluations for child custody cases as requested by the courts and counseling to children and families who are under Child Protective Services’ care.

Stacy is certified by the State of Texas to provide offender classes such as: Driving While Intoxicated Education (DWI-E), Driving While Intoxicated Intervention (DWI-I), and Drug Offender Education Program (DOEP).

In addition to owning and operating a private practice, Turning Leaf Counseling & Education Center, Stacy was previously employed by the University of Houston, Victoria as a professor’s assistant. Stacy assisted with graduate level Forensic and Counseling Psychology courses including Group Psychotherapy, Intellectual Assessment, Personality Assessment and Forensic Assessment.
